The performance of music of all types is vibrant and lively in Farnham, Surrey. At the forefront of the presentation of choral music is the Farnham and Bourne Choral Society, which celebrated its 75th birthday at a special concert in May 2000.
The choir was formed in 1925 from the Bourne Music Society, based on a ladies choir which had started a few months earlier. Initially with only about 24 members and conducted by Miss Susan Lushington, the choir has now grown from those small beginnings to number about 120 mixed voices performing all types of choral music.
Under its energetic musical director, Robin Wells, the following of the Farnham & Bourne Choral Society has now grown to such an extent that it has outgrown its traditional venue at the Church of St Thomas on the Bourne in South Farnham, and now most concerts are presented at Farnham’s main venue, The Maltings.
