A choir is only as good as its voices, and thankfully, we have the talents of our musical director to bring out the best. Robin Wells has been conductor and musical director of the choir since 1969. He is head of music at Charterhouse School, and also conducts other local musical activities, and is a leading figure on Surrey’s musical scene. He plans the choir’s music programme around a clear strategy up to 10 years ahead, always retains a fresh and innovative approach, and only sometimes treats the choir rather like errant schoolboys!

The choir also benefits from the immense talents of its accompanist, Brenda Stokes. Her skill with “the ivories” is often amazing, being able to play four vocal parts and the accompaniment at the same time! She seems also to have an uncanny ability to predict the next move of the conductor.

The business of the choir is managed by a committee elected annually in January. For the year 2001, the chairman is David Latter, the secretary Susan Duell, and the treasurer Robin Sturdy. Publicity is in the hands of Janet Bark, and ticket sales regulated by Val Barton.
